Containers lost at sea: new reporting requirements and improved safety – Assagenti

On 1 January 2026, a new international obligation came into force requiring the reporting of containers lost at sea or sighted adrift, introduced by the IMO through amendments to Chapter V of the SOLAS Convention. This measure strengthens the maritime safety system and introduces a more structured approach to managing incidents which, although relatively rare, can have significant consequences.
