The January/February edition of Euromerci published a contribution by Marco Lenti and Nicola Nardi that deals with the topic of intelligent tachographs.

The Ministry of the Interior has extended the period for installing the new smart tachographs on road haulage vehicles until 18 August 2025.

EU Regulation No. 165/2014 had made ‘version 1’ tachographs mandatory from 2019, but now ‘version 2’ is required for all vehicles registered after August 2023, even for those that had ‘version 1’ installed.

The extension until 2025 was established to compensate for delays in the supply of the devices, but all vehicles will have to comply with the obligation to install the new version by that date.
